The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) regulates the take-back and disposal of old appliances.

1. Separate collection of old appliances

Electrical appliances that have become waste are referred to as old appliances. They must be disposed of separately from household waste.

2. Batteries and rechargeable batteries

Remove batteries and rechargeable batteries before handing in your old appliance, unless they are permanently installed. You can dispose of these at separate collection points.

3. Options for returning old appliances

You have various options for returning your old appliances:

  • Municipal collection points: You will find collection points in your municipality where you can return your old appliances free of charge.
  • Manufacturers and distributors: Many manufacturers and distributors of electrical appliances also offer the option of taking back old appliances.
  • Our online store: You can also return your old appliances in our online store.

4. Costs of the return

The costs of returning old appliances are usually borne by the seller.

5. Data protection notice

Delete all personal data before returning your old appliance.

6. Symbol of the crossed-out dustbin

The crossed-out wheeled garbage can symbol on electrical appliances means that these appliances must not be disposed of with household waste.

You can return used batteries, which we carry or have carried as new batteries in our range, free of charge to our dispatch warehouse (dispatch address).

3. Meaning of the battery symbols

The symbols shown on the batteries have the following meaning:

  • Symbol of the crossed-out dustbin: The battery must not be disposed of with household waste.
  • Pb: Battery contains more than 0.004% lead by mass.
  • Cd: Battery contains more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass.
  • Hg: Battery contains more than 0.0005% mercury by mass.

4. What types of batteries and rechargeable batteries are there?

There are different types of batteries and rechargeable batteries that differ in their chemical composition, size and performance. The most common types of batteries are

  • Alkaline batteries: These batteries are the most widely used batteries and are used in many different devices, such as watches, remote controls and toys.
  • Lithium batteries: These batteries are more powerful than alkaline batteries and are used in many electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones and tablets.
  • Button cells: These small batteries are used in watches, hearing aids and other small devices.
  • Rechargeable batteries: Rechargeable batteries can be recharged and are therefore an environmentally friendly alternative to batteries.

5. What harmful substances can batteries contain?

Some batteries may contain harmful substances such as lead, cadmium and mercury. These harmful substances can endanger the environment and human health if they are not disposed of properly.

6. How can I dispose of batteries and rechargeable batteries correctly?

Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You can dispose of them free of charge at the following locations

  • Municipal collection points: You will find collection points in your municipality where you can hand in your batteries and rechargeable batteries free of charge.
  • Manufacturers and distributors: Many manufacturers and distributors of batteries and rechargeable batteries also offer the option of taking them back.
